REASONS FOR CHOOSING AN ACADEMY EDUCATION
Today, population growth, particularly within the state of Florida, has created a special need for healthcare and engineering professionals. Of the ten fastest growing careers identified by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, seven are healthcare or engineering occupations.
Each Academy graduate will be prepared to enter the job market at the aide or assistant level in his or her chosen major. Therefore, students may work while pursuing a higher education.
Students will work in state-of-the-art laboratories. Each student lab station accesses a computer network of advanced scientific software. Multimedia, interactive computer programs allow students to simulate actual medical conditions. All science lab facilities will meet state honors and advanced placement standards.
Hands-on learning is emphasized. Students practice skills through learning experiences in the areas major hospitals, clinics, and university laboratories. In addition, students are assigned mentors within their chosen fields creating opportunities for extensive job shadowing.
Core academic subject matter and technical course work will be linked so that students' learning and interests are reinforced. Summer seminars will also be offered.
All students will become computer literate by the end of their technical program.
Teachers are hired after county-wide recruitment and a rigorous selection process.
The Academy will maintain a computerized College and Career Exploration Center tied to a national network of information, whereby students may search for colleges, scholarships, and financial aid.
